On the run by train: Stolen bike from Marburg recovered in Wetzlar

In the middle of the night, Vincent P.*’s bike disappears from right outside his front door in Marburg, even though it is locked to a bike stand. By the time he reports the theft in the morning, his bike is already on a train heading for Wetzlar. The Bike Hunter team from IT’S MY BIKE immediately takes up the chase, using the GPS data from his tracker. What Vincent P.* doesn’t know at this point: he will have his bike back sooner than he dared to hope.

In the night before Tuesday, 8 September 2026, thieves strike in Marburg: at 04:46, Vincent P.*’s bike is stolen from right outside his front door, even though it is properly locked to a bike stand. Fortunately, his bike is fitted with a GPS tracker from IT’S MY BIKE.

When Vincent P.* discovers the empty bike stand in the morning, he reports the theft at 09:15 directly via the IT’S MY BIKE app. The Bike Hunter team from IT’S MY BIKE gets in touch with him straight away and takes a look at the tracker data. The result: the bike is still on the move – on a train heading for Wetzlar. While Vincent P.* sets off to the police to report the theft, the Bike Hunter team contacts the officers in Wetzlar directly. Every minute counts, because the goal is clear: to catch the thief while he still has the bike.

According to the tracker data, the thief gets off the train at Wetzlar station and initially stays on the station forecourt. A police officer immediately tries to locate him using the CCTV cameras there. But the thief moves on, through the station underpass to the north side of the station. The Bike Hunter team follows every movement live and continuously passes the location data on to the police. Eventually, the thief stops for a longer time at a crossroads. That is exactly where the officers come across two people and recover the bike at 09:40.

In the bike basket, they also find the thief’s tools. Just 25 minutes pass between the theft report and the recovery. Vincent P.* can pick up his bike directly in Wetzlar.
